Kwinana Energy Recovery is the first facility in Australia that integrates recovery and reuse of waste with the generation of electricity.

The project delivers renewable baseload power to a large metropolitan population and an industrial base.
The facility uses world-class technologies to process 460,000 tonnes per year of residual non-recyclable waste.

The Kwinana Energy Recovery facility is an important and significant renewable energy project for Western Australia and Australia. It is the first thermal utility-scale Energy Recovery facility constructed in Australia, diverting approximately 25 per cent of Perth’s post-recycling rubbish from landfill sites.

The Kwinana Energy Recovery facility uses Keppel Seghers moving grate technology, which thermally treats the waste and converts the recovered energy into steam to produce electricity. Metallic materials are recovered and recycled, while other by-products are reused as construction materials.
